BATTLE OF WASHINGTON
January 11, 1864
After the loss of Washington D.C. to the rebel forces in a quick suprise attack on new year's eve (The Wormwood Herald reported), the rebel forces have been pushed out of the city again by Gen. MEADE and his federal troops. The president, who had been evacuated, will remain at an undisclosed safe location.
The rebel troops had appereantly managed to develop a new, more effective, form of Giffard's airship "dirigible".
The flottila of flying vehicles must have been built in extreme secrecy, giving the rebels the aibilty to attack Washington, sneaking past - pardon- "over" the union forces at the rappahannock river.
When Gen Meade received news of the attack, he immediately started to march upon washington, but he was slowed down by the weather conditions, and only reached the city after several days. The rebel forces initially offered fierce resistance, but then quickly had to withdraw, as they were outnumberd nearly ten to one.
They managed to escape by the same way they appraoched Washington, heading back South.
The light cavalary is currently tracking their movents, but is expected to be unable to keep up with their speed for more than a few days.
