BATTLE OF BULL RUN
August 3, 1861
The BATTLE OF BULL RUN in the last week led to a defeat of the Federal forces under Brig. Gen. McDOWEL. The rebel forces under JOHNSTON were able to turn the tide by capturing the union gun batteries, finally leading to the reatreat of McDowell's forces to Washington D.C.
President Lincoln has replaced McDowell with General McCLELLAN as a reaction upon the loss.
